Carbon Pricing

Carbon Pricing

Carbon pricing is an economic and energy policy measure aimed at reducing harmful CO2 emissions by increasing the costs for the emitters. It sets the price per ton of carbon dioxide or equivalent greenhouse gases, as the costs for the respective fuels are often significantly lower than the external costs caused by emissions. Pricing can be implemented through taxation or an emissions trading system. The goal is to incentivize companies and individuals to minimize CO2 emissions and adopt renewable energy sources and technologies. Carbon pricing is a central element of the German government's climate protection program. In January 2021, the carbon price was set at 25 euros, with plans to gradually increase it to 55 euros by 2025 and up to 65 euros by 2026.

In the building sector, carbon pricing makes sustainable construction and renovation more attractive and economically viable. It also promotes the use of renewable energy and intelligent building management. By optimizing resource use in building operations, energy efficiency can be improved by up to 40 percent. Optimization with the aedifion cloud platform effectively reduces both environmental impacts and ongoing operational costs.
