Smart Readiness Indicator
The Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) is an assessment tool developed by the European Commission to measure the smart readiness of buildings. It was introduced as part of the revision of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and describes how effectively a building uses modern information and communication technologies to enhance energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and energy flexibility. The assessment is based on so‑called smart‑ready services, structured into nine technical domains such as HVAC, lighting, or e‑mobility.
For the building sector, the SRI is gaining strong importance as it provides an objectively measurable indicator of building intelligence, creating a new quality criterion alongside energy efficiency, CO₂ balance, and ESG compliance. The SRI promotes digital, connected, and interoperable building technologies and supports the trend toward automated, energy‑efficient operations. Buildings with a high SRI score offer advantages such as lower energy costs, improved maintenance processes, enhanced occupant comfort, and greater market attractiveness.
aedifion contributes to the SRI with its Optimization Bundle by rapidly digitalizing buildings, connecting operational data via its cloud platform, and analyzing it using AI. The platform identifies operational inefficiencies, enhances the interoperability of building automation, and directly increases compliance with many SRI criteria.
